Netflix is bringing Squid Game 2 to Lucca.
Squid Game creator/writer/director Hwang Dong-hyuk, along with stars Lee Jung-jae and Wi Ha-Joon, will preview the hotly anticipated second season of the smash-hit Korean thriller series at this year’s Lucca Comics & Games, Europe’s No. 1 comics and gaming convention, which runs in the medieval city of Lucca in central Italy from Oct. 30-Nov. 3. The second season will bow later this year.
Netflix is keeping mum about the event in Lucca on Oct. 31. But given that Squid Game is the most popular series ever on the streamer, it stands to reason that interest will be high.
Lucca on Wednesday announced other highlights of this year’s convention, which include special celebrations for the 50th anniversary of fantasy roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons, the 40th anniversary of the pioneering computer game Tetris, and the 25th anniversary of iconic Japanese manga One Piece (which Netflix recently adapted as a live-action series).
The festival also unveiled this year’s poster, designed by Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano, called The Butterfly Effect, supposedly inspired by Giacomo Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly (see below). A renowned contemporary artist, painter and sculptor, Amano is perhaps best known for his designs for the Final Fantasy video game series.
