Netflix to Stream Chinese Suspense Series ‘See Her Again’ 5

Global streamer Netflix has picked up U.S. and international streaming rights to the much anticipated Chinese fantasy suspense series See Her Again. Currently in post-production, the show is expected to drop later this year simultaneously on Netflix and Chinese streamer Tencent Video — making for a rare day-and-date worldwide release at a time when China’s online video landscape is typically walled off from the major U.S. platforms and their global reach. The deal was unveiled this week at the ongoing 29th Shanghai TV Festival.

See Her Again is produced by Tencent Video and Hong Kong production banner Drama Apple. The 18-episode series was the only Asian show selected to compete for the Coup de Coeur Award at MIPTV’s MIPDrama Screenings in April.

Initially set in the 1990s, the series follows a Hong Kong police detective (played by Hong Kong heartthrob William Chan) who unexpectedly travels to the year 2018 and partners with a female detective (popular mainland Chinese actress Cya Liu) to uncover a series of mysterious murder cases stretching across the past. The ensemble cast includes Tse Kwan Ho (A Guilty Conscience), Niki Chow (Enter the Fat Dragon), Ling Man Lung (Tomorrow Is Another Day), Ben Yuen Fu Wah (Suk Suk), and Cheung Man Kit (Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In), along with a special appearance from Stephen Fung (House of Fury).

See Her Again is directed by Hong Kong filmmaker KK Wong (The Trading Floor) and scripted by veteran screenwriter Tong Yiu-leung (Raging Fire), along with Chu Kang Ki and Lau Siu Kwan (Operation Mekong) as script consultants. Other prominent Hong Kong industry creatives involved in the show include: director of photography Ng Man Ching (Infernal Affairs), art director Andrew Wong (Where the Wind Blows), costume designers Ollie Leung (Big Brother) and Johnny Tang Shui-Wa (The Goldfinger).

The 2024 Shanghai TV Festival runs June 24-28 in China’s commercial capital.
