Jennifer Lawrence Led Graphic Novel Why Don’t You Love Me? Movie for A24 5

Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in feature Why Don’t You Love Me?, an adaptation of the Paul B. Rainey graphic novel.

A24 acquired the rights to Rainey’s sci-fi comedy, which follows an unhappily married couple that struggle through their personal and professional lives until they realize that their reality is not what it seems and there may be alternatives. He released the novel in 2023 via publisher Drawn & Quarterly.

Robert Funke, the creator behind the series On Becoming a God in Central Florida, will direct.

Lawrence will produce alongside Justine Ciarrocchi for Excellent Cadaver, which was behind Sony comedy No Hard Feelings. Lawrence and A24 recently announced another project — a murder mystery based on the Real Housewives reality franchise for Apple — and worked together on the Oscar-nominated drama Causeway, in which she played a military veteran adjusting to life back home. Lawrence has been nominated for four acting Oscars, winning lead actress for Silver Linings Playbook in 2013.

Midsommer filmmaker Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, and Emily Hildner of Square Peg will also produce Why Don’t You Love Me?. Rainey will executive produce.

Funke is represented at CAA, Mosaic and Lichter Grossman; Rainey and his graphic novel are repped by Gersh; Excellent Cadaver is repped by LBI.
