‘Acapulco’ Renewed for Season 4 at Apple TV+l 5

Apple TV+ is booking another return trip to Acapulco.

The comedy series starring and executive produced by Eugenio Derbez has scored a season four renewal at Apple TV+. The pickup comes two months after Acapulco wrapped its third season — and a month after earning nine nominations for the Imagen Awards, which honor Latinos in television and film. The series (produced by Lionsgate Television, 3Pas Studios, Zihuatanejo Productions and The Tannenbaum Company) is nominated for best comedy, and seven cast members are up for acting awards.

“Having Apple order a fourth season of Acapulco is beyond thrilling,” Derbez said in a statement. “I’m incredibly grateful to our amazing partners, the talented cast and crew, and especially to the audience, whose love and support have made this journey possible. It’s rare for shows centered on Latino stories to make it this far, and that makes this milestone even more meaningful. Representation matters, and continuing to share these vibrant stories on a global stage is something [executive producer] Ben Odell and I are deeply proud of.”

Acapulco is inspired by Derbez’s film How to Be a Latin Lover and follows his character, Máximo, as a young man working at a resort in the 1980s (Enrique Arrizón plays the younger version of the character) and in the present. Season three focused on the young Máximo climbing the ladder of success — but potentially jeopardizing some relationships — while in the present day, older Máximo returns to the resort, which he barely recognizes.

“We are so thankful to Apple and all our partners at Lionsgate for giving us the privilege to do another season of this hopeful, heartfelt, delightful show,” said series co-creator Austin Winsberg and showrunner and Sam Laybourne. “Getting to a fourth season only happens when a show has an incredible team of actors, crew members and producers. We couldn’t be more excited to get back to Las Colinas and collaborate again with such a talented, hard-working and kind group of people.”

Along with Derbez and Arrizón, Acapulco stars Fernando Carsa, Damián Alcázar, Camila Perez, Vanessa Bauche, Regina Reynoso, Raphael Alejandro, Jessica Collins, Chord Overstreet, Rafael Cebrián, Regina Orozco and Carlos Corona.

Winsberg, Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman created the series. Winsberg, Laybourne and Derbez executive produce with Kim and Eric Tannenbaum and Jason Wang of The Tannenbaum Company and director Jaime Eliezer Karas. Sonia Gambaro of 3Pas Studios is co-EP.
