Nick Jonas will never compete in the Olympics, but he may as well have.
The actor and singer stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday to discuss his new film, The Good Half, his upcoming stint on Broadway for The Last Five Years and his ongoing international tour with the Jonas Brothers.
To kick off their conversation, Jonas explained that he was supposed to be on his way to Paris for the 2024 Olympics, but he decided to miss the opening ceremony to appear on the late night show. Host Jimmy Fallon pointed out that he wouldn’t be competing in the games but was in the Disney Channel Games, to loud applause from the audience.
When asked what he remembers from that time, Jonas began with “so much hair” before recounting his experience.
“For those that don’t know, the Disney Channel Games were basically the Olympics, but where they would bring in a hundred-ish Disney Channel stars from all over the world and make us compete in silly games,” Jonas said. “But what it really was, was like Love Island on crack.”
He added, “They would put a bunch of teenagers in the Disney park after hours and just say: ‘Let’s see what happens.’”
Love Island USA is based on the U.K. series of the same name and follows a group of people who are all sent to a resort in Fiji that has been converted into a set. While there, the islanders couple up in new surroundings and compete in games and challenges. Tensions arise when they’re asked if they want to remain with their partners or “recouple” with someone new.
