Lisa Kudrow plays the jolly leader of a merry band of thieves in the official trailer for Time Bandits, the Apple TV+ fantasy comedy that co-creator Taika Waititi adapted from the 1981 Terry Gilliam film of the same name.
“Nothing is too big for us to steal,” Kudrow’s character, Penelope, explains to the series’ hero, Kevin, an 11-year-old history buff and the central child star played by Brit actor Kal-El Tuck. “Okay, now that we’re close, maybe it is too big to steal,” a deadpan Kudrow says in an otherwise absurdly comedic scene in the trailer as Penelope, Kevin and her crack team of robbers come upon a giant Trojan Horse about to enter medieval city gates.
Time Bandits has its characters traveling through time and space to meet adventure at every turn as they look to plunder treasure, whether when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, as Stonehenge was created or during the Harlem Renaissance.
The ensemble cast for the Time Bandits remake includes Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Rune Temte, Charlyne Yi, Rachel House, Kiera Thompson, James Dryden, Felicity Ward, Francesca Mills and Imaan Hadchiti (Thor: Love and Thunder).
Kudrow took on a lead role in Time Bandits after a recurring part on Netflix’s Space Force. Other recent credits include Netflix’s Feel Good and Grace and Frankie and voice work on Fox’s Housebroken.
Clement, Morris and Waititi executive produce, write and direct select episodes of Time Bandits, with Clement and Morris serving as co-showrunners. Garrett Basch and Tim Coddington also executive produce along with Jane Stanton, who executive produces for Handmade Films, the producer of the original Time Bandits movie by Gilliam.
