Jonathan Majors has landed his first film role following his much-publicized trial and misdemeanor conviction. The actor will star in the supernatural revenge thriller Merciless from filmmaker Martin Villeneuve, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The story, which is set for a fall shoot, centers on a CIA interrogator, who is forced to defeat a malevolent force that has overtaken the woman he loves. Frank Hannah penned the screenplay.

Christopher Tuffin, who produced box office success story Sound of Freedom, will produce. Kevin Townsend and Kevin DeWalt will also produce, with Amanda Delaplaine, Chris Ochs, Andrew Bates, and Ben DeWalt exec producing.

At the top of the year, Creed star Majors was found guilty of one count of misdemeanor third-degree assault and one count of second-degree harassment. He was acquitted of two other counts of assault and aggravated harassment. The trail stemmed from a March 2023 incident between the actor and his ex-partner, Grace Jabbari. In the wake of the judgment, Majors lost his role as Kang the Conquerer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which he was set to lead Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Villeneuve, the brother Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, is best known for his Mars and Avril film and the animated series Red Ketchup. He is repped by Gersh.

Majors, repped by WME, broke out in indie films like The Last Black Man in San Fransisco before moving on to projects like the western The Harder they Fall and Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods. Before his conviction, he was considered one of the top rising stars in Hollywood. He appeared in the latest Creed film and played Marvel villain Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the Loki TV series.
