Yves Mathieu East has joined the second season of Survival of the Thickest as a guest star.
The multi-hyphenate artist is pivoting to TV as East will appear in the next chapter of the A24 and Netflix scripted comedy alongside fellow guest stars like Anderson .Paak and Tika Sumpter. East’s modeling career includes appearances in campaigns by Burberry, GQ, Kenneth Cole, Puma and being tapped by Beyoncé for the Drip 2 Ivy Park campaign.
His activism includes support for LGBTQ+ rights, black queer liberation and mental health awareness through the Jed Foundation and advocacy for reproductive healthcare access.
Production on the second season of Survival of the Thickest has started. The second season guest stars also include Jonathan Chad Higginbotham, Deon Cole, Alecsys Proctor-Turner, Jerrie Johnson, Celisse, Rolonda Watts, Michael Rishawn, Monét X Change and RonReaco Lee.
They join a returning ensemble cast of Buteau, Tasha Smith, Tone Bell, Liza Treyge, Peppermint and Marouane Zotti. The comedy is co-created and co-executive produced by Danielle Sanchez-Witzel and star Michelle Buteau.
The series centers on Mavis Beaumont (Buteau), who is black, plus-size and looking for love, with the scripted series inspired by Buteau’s book of the same name. “Mavis works hard to grow her brand and establish herself as a stylist of note. She’s determined to not only survive but thrive with the support of her chosen family, a body-positive attitude and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss,” a synopsis from the series’ producer states.
Besides Survival of the Thickest, East is also set to star in an upcoming gothic romance indie film now in development.
Grace Edwards executive produces the Netflix series, which has Amy Aniobi on board as the second season showrunner and executive producer. A24 and Anne Hong from Mosaic are also executive producing.
