Andra Day plays a young mother fighting for her life, her faith and the souls of her children in a trailer for Lee Daniels’ The Deliverance, which was released on Tuesday.

After moving into a mysterious house, Ebony Jackson, a struggling mother played by Day who is fighting her own personal demons, must face down a demonic force in her new home to save her children from danger.

“Father, we ask that you cleanse and sanctify us for this deliverance,” Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, playing Reverend Bernice James, says at one point in the dark and moody trailer as an attempt to deliver the house, and Ebony’s family, from chaotic possession.

Not all goes as planned, as Ebony is soon locked in a battle for a higher power to rescue herself and her family from demonic possession. Inspired by a true story of possession, Daniels’ supernatural thriller also stars Glenn Close, Anthony B. Jenkins and Mo’Nique.

The faith-based film marks a creative departure for Daniels and will hit select theaters on Aug. 16, before landing on Netflix on Aug. 30. The Deliverance reteams Day with Daniels after she played the role of Billie Holiday in The United States VS Billie Holiday, about the jazz singer as an early Civil Rights movement figure.

Daniels directed The Deliverance from a script by David Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum. The producer credits are shared by Daniels, Tucker Tooley, Pamela Oas Williams, Jackson Nguyen and Todd Critesm, while Jackie Shenoo, Hilary Shor, Greg Renker and Gregoire Gensollen are executive producers.
