Roy Wood Jr. Stand-Up Special Set at Hulu 5

Roy Wood Jr.‘s next stand-up comedy special is headed to Hulu.

The Disney-owned streaming service said Wood’s fourth stand-up special, which will be taped at the Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C. in September, will launch on Hulu and Disney+ internationally. His last special, Imperfect Messengerstreamed on Paramount+.

The comedian’s TV appearance comes as Hulu leans into monthly stand-up specials under the banner “Hulu’s Laughing Now.” In addition to those specials, Hulu is also building out a library of classic stand-up performances and newer specials from production companies 800 Pound Gorilla and Comedy Dynamics.

Jim Gaffigan will headline the first special, set to premiere on Nov. 22. Bill Burr is also scheduled to bring his next comedy special to Hulu after earlier specials streamed on Netflix. Mainstay Entertainment and Jax Media will produce the Wood special, and c. Craig Patterson will direct.

For eight years, Wood was a correspondent on The Daily Show. He guest-hosted the Comedy Central show in 2023 and headlined the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2017. Next, he will appear alongside Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill in the upcoming comedy, Outcome.

His other credits include Paramount Pictures’ Fletch remake, Confess, Fletch, and guest appearances in Only Murders in the Building, Better Call Saul and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

A date and title for Wood’s set will be announced at a later date.

Hulu is something of a latecomer to the stand-up game among the big streaming services. Netflix has streamed a host of high-profile specials from Burr, Chris Rock, Hannah Gadsby, John Mulaney, Joe Rogan and many others. Amazon’s Prime Video also has a substantial stand-up presence, and Max has both original specials and a deep library of HBO sets.
