The Paramount+ With Showtime drama The Agency continues to build out an A-list cast.
Jodie Turner-Smith is the latest addition to the ensemble, which also stars Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright and Richard Gere. The Agency centers on Martian (Fassbender), a covert CIA operative who’s ordered to abandon his undercover assignment and return to the agency’s London station.
Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim, The Acolyte) will play Sami Zahir, a professor of social anthropology who has a history with Martian.
“Jodie Turner-Smith is a force who captivates audiences with her raw, emotional power,” said Nina L. Diaz, president of content and chief creative officer at Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios & Paramount Media Networks. “We are thrilled she is joining our extraordinary cast.”
The Agency, based on the acclaimed French drama Le Bureau des Legendes, received a straight-to-series order at Showtime in February 2023, before the premium cable outlet was folded into the Paramount+ streaming platform. Jez and John-Henry Butterworth are writing the series, which comes from Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, and Joe Wright is directing the first two episodes.
The Butterworths and Wright executive produce along with George Clooney and Grant Heslov (via their Smokehouse Pictures); Diaz and Keith Cox of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios; David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin and Bob Yari of 101 Studios; Alex Berger of TOP-The Originals Productions; and Ashley Stern and Pascal Breton of Federation Studios/Federation Entertainment of America.
Turner-Smith has a recurring role on Star Wars series The Acolyte at Disney+ and will next be seen in Bad Monkey at Apple TV+. Her credits also include White Noise, Murder Mystery 2 and Netflix’s Sex Education. She is repped by UTA, 111 Media, The Lede Company and Johnson Shapiro.
