CNN has found a new Jerusalem correspondent, one of its pivotal overseas postings.

The cable news channel has named Jeremy Diamond to the role.

Diamond has been with CNN for a decade, beginning as a campaign embed following then-candidate Donald Trump, and continuing on as a White House correspondent, where he covered both the Trump and Biden administrations.

Since the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel and the Netanyahu government’s response in Gaza, including the impact on civilians, Diamond has reported extensively from Israel, Gaza and the West Bank. Now, he will take on the role of international correspondent full time from the region.

Diamond’s appointment follows the move of former CNN Jerusalem correspondent Hadas Gold to New York, where she covers media (Gold and this reporter previously worked together on Politico’s media desk).

He also joins the role at a critical moment for CNN, which is still adjusting to the leadership of its new CEO Mark Thompson, who began at the company right after the Oct. 7 attacks.

Thompson has outlined a digital-first future for the news outlet, and has restructured accordingly. Thompson is also the one who secured the first 2024 presidential debate between Trump and Biden, reaching out to both campaigns early to lock it in. The debate is slated for later this week.
