Two years and change after its first season ended, FX is putting The Old Man back to work.

The thriller starring Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow will begin its second season on Sept. 12, about 26 months after season one concluded in July 2022. The Old Man is one of four series FX will debut in September — the others are American Sports Story, the network’s latest anthology from Ryan Murphy; English Teacher, a comedy created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will & Grace); and docuseries Social Studies, from filmmaker Lauren Greenfield (The Queen of Versailles).

Additionally, FX will debut Lie to Fly, its latest New York Times Presents documentary, on Aug. 23.

Season two of The Old Man will follow former CIA operative Dan Chase (Bridges) and ex-FBI assistant director Harold Harper (Lithgow) as they work to rescue Emily (Alia Shawkat) after she’s kidnapped in Afghanistan. Gbenga Akinnagbe, Navid Negahban and Jacqueline Antaramian will reprise their roles from the first season.

FX also released a short teaser for The Old Man’s second season; watch it below.

American Sports Story’s first season premieres Sept. 17 and will track the life of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez (played by Josh Andrés Rivera), who was convicted in the 2013 murder of a friend, Odin Lloyd. Hernandez died by suicide in 2017 while serving a prison sentence for the murder.

Jaylen Barron, Lindsay Mendez, Ean Castellanos, Tammy Blanchard, Tony Yazbeck, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Thomas Sadoski, Jake Cannavale and Norbert Leo Butz also star. The show is based on the Boston Globe/Wondery podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc

Alvarez’s English Teacher stars the comedian and filmmaker as a teacher at an Austin, Texas, high school. Stephanie Koenig, Sean Patton, Enrico Colantoni, Carmen Christopher, Jordan Firstman and Langston Kerman. It premieres Sept. 2.

Social Studies, premiering Sept. 27, follows a group of Los Angeles teenagers over the course of a school year as Greenfield examines how social media has changed the way kids experience growing up.

Lie to Fly delves into the case of Joseph Emerson, an off-duty pilot who’s accused of trying to crash an Alaska Airlines flight in October 2023, as well as a movement to reform FAA rules about pilots’ mental health.
