Veteran exec Geoff Stier is returning to Paramount Pictures as executive vp of production, motion picture group.
He joins the studio from Showtime Networks, where he was senior vp of original programming, overseeing work on projects like Ripley for Netflix, and the Showtime and Paramount+ limited series Fellow Travelers, starring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey.
Stier will report to Motion Picture Group co-presidents Daria Cercek and Michael Ireland. “With his incredible track record for producing world-class entertainment, deep bench of industry relationships and impeccable taste, we’re thrilled to be bringing Geoff back into the fold at Paramount Pictures, and know he’ll add immeasurable value to our team and theatrical slate,” Cercek and Ireland said in a joint statement.
He previously worked at the studio from 2009-2017, serving as executive vp of production at Paramount Pictures. His credits included True Grit, World War Z, The Big Short, Daddy’s Home 1 and 2, Annihilation and Selma. Before that, he was senior vp of production and development at Paramount Vantage, where he oversaw film production on Into the Wild, There Will be Blood, Margot at the Wedding and Defiance, among other projects.
Stier’s industry experience includes earlier executive stints at Sydney Pollack and Anthony Minghella’s Mirage Enterprise and at UCLA for six years, where he helped develop new programs for the Film & Television Archive, including The Film Foundation with Martin Scorsese.
Stier returns to a Paramount Pictures in transition as it faces the impact of a pending takeover of parent Paramount Global by a consortium led by Skydance, with a likely restructuring to follow.
