Shailene Woodley is telling women’s raw and honest stories in the trailer for Starz’s limited series Three Women, based on Lisa Taddeo’s bestselling book of the same name.

The show, created by Taddeo, also stars Betty Gilpin as Lina, DeWanda Wise as Sloane, Gabrielle Creevy as Maggie, Blair Underwood as Richard and Jason Ralph as Aaron.

The 10-episode series explores a nuanced portrait of female desire through the compelling stories of three women on a crash course to radically overturn their lives. Lina is a homemaker in suburban Indiana who embarks on an affair that transforms her life after a decade of a passionless marriage. Sloane is a glamorous entrepreneur in the Northeast whose committed open marriage is threatened by two sexy new strangers. Maggie is a student in North Dakota who must navigate an intense storm after accusing her married English teacher of an inappropriate relationship.

In the trailer, Woodley’s Gia, a writer grieving the loss of her family, is seen heading out on a solo driving trip across the country, where she discovers what she didn’t realize she was looking for: “these three women.” She then persuades them to tell their stories, and her relationships with them change her life forever.

“More than I wanted to tell their stories, I wanted to hear them myself,” Woodley says in a voiceover. “They all had the audacity to believe they deserved more.”

Laura Eason is the series showrunner with Taddeo also serving as an executive producer, along with Kathy Ciric and Emmy Rossum.

“I wanted to tell the world their story,” Woodley concludes in the footage. “Our particular pains come from wound sites we can’t see on one another. The thing we can do to understand is to listen, to really listen.”

Three Women debuts on Starz Sept. 13.
